Weather Beacon Blue

Weather Beacon Blue is a Des Moines-based band made up of longtime friends and seasoned musicians who’ve been part of Iowa’s music scene for decades. Drawing on a shared love of classic rock, tight harmonies, and the occasional deep cut, the band delivers a sound that’s both nostalgic and fresh. Members Mark Green, Steve Vickery, Steve Snyder, and Randy Beers bring a lifetime of experience—from surf and blues to progressive rock—and an undeniable chemistry that comes from years of playing together. When Weather Beacon Blue takes the stage, it’s all about good songs, great energy, and a crowd that feels like part of the band.

Steve Vickery

A fixture on the Des Moines music scene since 1965, Steve Vickery has brought passion, energy, and a little mischief to every band he’s played in. Influenced by the likes of Yes, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and The Who, he’s explored an impressive range of styles over the decades—from classic rock to progressive and beyond. His musical résumé includes The Ambrose Bierce Memorial Band, 953 Multiplicitive, WAKE (with Steve Snyder), Vick and the Wombats, Ted, Kirk, Steve, Gus, and the Firemen, and The Dave Wolf Band. Today, he keeps the beat and the banter alive in Weather Beacon Blue. Ever the optimist, Steve is planning his next big adventure—the “Winter Won’t Stop Us” World Tour. Decades later, his love of rock ’n’ roll still burns bright.

Steve Snyder

Steve Snyder (known to bandmates as “Steve 2”) grew up in Des Moines and picked up the guitar in middle school, inspired by his late friend and teacher John Joseph. Over the years, he’s played everything from rock and surf to blues, church, and jazz. Steve 2’s first band, WAKE, formed during his Roosevelt High School years with drummer Steve Vickery—now his Weather Beacon Blue bandmate once again. Among his favorite musical memories: performing on the historic stage of the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake. These days, Steve 2 continues to bring steady rhythm and good humor to every show.

Mark Green

Like millions of others “of a certain age,” Mark’s life changed the night he saw the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Since then, he’s never put down an instrument for long—moving easily from bass to guitar, piano, and even trombone. In the early ’90s, Mark played bass and keyboards with the popular variety band The Heartbeats before forming The Sonny Humbucker Band with friends and colleagues. A few years later, Weather Beacon Blue began as a side project, with Mark on rhythm guitar. Over the past decade, WBB has played at venues across Des Moines, including Star Bar and Vaudeville Mews. A lifelong fan, Mark goes to great lengths to see his musical heroes—most recently catching Oasis live at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Randy Beers

Born in San Francisco and raised in Des Moines, Randy Beers grew up surrounded by music. His father, Bobby Beers, sang with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra and later became a Des Moines DJ, while his brother Bob helped him buy his first guitar at 15 and gave him lessons. Randy’s first band, LochNess, sparked a lifelong love of performing. He went on to play and sing with GiftHorse and later co-founded Sterling Heist, one of Central Iowa’s favorite rock bands of the era. After several other projects—including Free Beer, MissDemeanor, and The Dirty Germans—Randy joined forces with David Wolf, Mark Green, and Steve Vickery to form Weather Beacon Blue. He continues to hold down the groove on bass and vocals, blending musicianship with heart.
